Fluency Writing- quick review of a few known words.
Rereading of Familiar Books- student reads 2-3 familiar books to take home.
Rereading of Yesterday's New Book- teacher takes a running record as the child reads, documenting child's reading behaviors. After the story has been read the teacher gives praise and addresses problems at point of difficulty and teaches the child what strategies he/she can use.
10 Minutes
Letter or Word Work- learning new words and how words have parts or chunks.
Writing a Story- student creates and writes a sentence with teacher's support. Student has the opportunity to use words he/she knows, learn new words and practice articulating words and recording sounds.
Cut-up Sentence- teacher writes the sentence on a strip of paper and cuts it up . The student reconstructs the sentence and takes it home to be reassembled for practice.

New Book Introduced-picture walk and discussion of story details.
New Book Attempted- student reads independently as possible with praise and teaching points at points of difficulty or after reading. This book will be used for the running record during the next day's lesson. |
